The nursery classroom is an extension and a bigger version of the toddler classroom. It is bright, warm and inviting. Here, we expand activities that boost the child’s memory and imagination through interactive learning, questioning and hands-on activities that are generally self-motivated.
He does it with his hands, by experience, first in play and then through work. The hands are the instruments of intelligence.
Dr. Maria Montessori
The nursery classroom is an extension and a bigger version of the toddler classroom. Our classrooms are bright, warm, and inviting. You can see different areas or centres of learning lined with plants, animals which the children are raising, art, music, books, aquariums and interest centres with fascinating learning materials.
The environment precludes forceful learning, so, there is freedom of movement and work is independently chosen by the children. You cannot but perceive the atmosphere of mutual interaction, warmth, love, respect, calmness, intelligence, independence and camaraderie that pervades the environment. Other elements are the integrated Montessori curriculum (five major curriculum Areas), vertical or mixed age grouping (a Three-Year age span), typical class size of about 35 children with two trained Montessori directresses and sometimes an assistant.
The Montessori materials, which are from concrete to abstract are auto didactic, in the sense that children can teach themselves with such materials. This is because it has been proved that the child is a self-motivated learner and can learn anything if the environment is so prepared to facilitate this.
